Seems Good Magic Blog

Hey all! Though I did not attend a real life Dragons of Tarkir prerelease, I have been actively participating in the online ones. So far, I haven't been super successful, but I'm hopeful to learn what works better than what I've tried. So far, the format appears to be much more simplistic since players are really only incentivized to play two-color. It does appear that all the two-color combinations have their strengths and weaknesses though, so I'll have to try them all out...

I got a chance to compete in one of the last PTQs yesterday. Despite poor performance, I still had a great time. Playing Magic with people in person is vastly different than playing online, and it was refreshing to compete in paper Magic again. If you're interested in looking at my vlog of the day, you can see it here. I even got in a featured match, which was a lot of fun too. I played UW Heroic, and I plan on continuing to play...

Hey all. We're still a couple weeks away from Fate Reforged coming online, and I didn't do any real life prereleases. The first few drafts you see of mine will be my first experiences with Fate Reforged, and I'm very excited for it.

Check out the new site updates on the front page. The "Custom Sets" link takes you to all of the custom Magic sets I've made and presented on the Mortarpod. The "Travelers of Storia" link takes you to my board...

Hey everybody! Merry Christmas to all those that celebrate it, happy holidays to everyone else. I've been drafting a lot of the holiday cube and finding success for the most part. Although I haven't won one yet, I've gone 2-1 three times, and only gone 1-2 once, so overall not bad. The holiday cube definitely seems much more aimed at combo-ey, control things and much less at aggro-ey, face-stomping (much to my chagrin). I will say that a chance to play with power 9 is always...

I've been drafting Khans pretty much daily for close to a month now, and I feel like I've learned a lot. I had a very rocky start for about 15 drafts, but I've started to turn it around. I'm now winning more often than I'm losing, and I'm starting to get a better feel for what works best for my play style. I've had the most success with BW color foundations, which means both Mardu and Abzan are what's worked for me. Two drop creatures seem pretty vital for any archetype since being on the draw...

Hey everybody! I've been doing a weekend of Khans of Tarkir prereleases, and getting my butt kicked! I actually love the format so far though. It seems very complex, and diverse. I'm looking forward to many more of the next few weeks. If you haven't been hitting up the podcasts, I highly recommend you do so. Our new segment, Make a Wish, has been going over very well, and I'd love to have more suggestions from you guys. Here's a link to all of the custom sets I've...

Hey folks, I got a chance to sit down with Chelsee Jean and the crew of The Local Experiment to once again talk about the process of making Travelers of Storia. You can watch the interview here. I'm in the process of working on a new tutorial video for the game, which will show an example of what doing a mission in single player looks like. I'll have more info on that when I'm finished editing it.

I've also...

Hey y'all! Since my last blog post I've gotten a chance to record a roughly ten minute tutorial video for Travelers of Storia that you can view here.  I've also gotten the website up and running at www.travelersofstoria.com, so be sure and check that out and register for the forums.  You can also check out all the cards for the first expansion at that ...

It's been more than a month since my last update, what could possibly be going on? I've been waiting for my first boardgame prototype to finish printing and that time has finally arrived, as you can see from the picture. What should you expect over the next few weeks? First and foremost, tutorial videos for the game. The game has a simple, yet dynamic combat system, but watching videos has always been the easiest way for me to learn rather than trying to read and learn it. The game comes...

I'm in playtest mode for my board game Travelers of Storia, and I've been learning a lot. Writing instructions for a complex game has proven to be very challenging, but thanks to the patience and time of playtesters it's really coming along. So far, the playtesters have been very positive and vocal about the quality of the art, and the complexity and strategy of the game. Main complaints have just involved rules comprehension, which is completely understandable, and what I'm working to fix...
