Draft Knowledge I've Gained - 11/2/14

I've been drafting Khans pretty much daily for close to a month now, and I feel like I've learned a lot. I had a very rocky start for about 15 drafts, but I've started to turn it around. I'm now winning more often than I'm losing, and I'm starting to get a better feel for what works best for my play style. I've had the most success with BW color foundations, which means both Mardu and Abzan are what's worked for me. Two drop creatures seem pretty vital for any archetype since being on the draw playing a morph heavy deck can have you very far behind, fast. 18 lands also appears to be much more commonly prudent in Khans. More so than any limited format since Zendikar in my opinion. I've gotten a few opportunities now to draft 4-color, and have been happy with all of those decks, but not as successful. It's kind of a tricky format because picking non-bombs, non- landfixers early can lead you into making deck building decisions you may not want to make. I've also found that deathtouch is more relevant than ever in Khans, so cards that may have seemed underwhelming on the surface early on (like Mardu Hateblade) are actually not only highly playable, but just plain good. I've drafted and played Dragon Throne of Tarkir more than probably any other drafter in the world, and I still mostly like it. I've encountered many board states where neither player is attacking, and if you don't have Outlasters, the Dragon Throne can be a real game breaker. I appreciate the comments and advice along the way, and hope to have many more videos available for you guys as the weeks of Khans continue. Talk to you soon! --Alex
