Board Game Update 3/24/14

Facebook Comments Box

Hey, It's been a little while since I've talked about the board game I'm designing, so I thought an update was in order. If you're not familiar with what I'm working on, I was interviewed for a web series where I give more information about the game in general.  You can see the interview here. Before the last two weeks, the last few months had been stagnant and frustrating. I had communicated with artists, made price commitments, thought we were on a good path, but unfortunately ended up getting no usable work out of them, as well as being out three months of time. If there's one major thing I've learned from this entire experience, it's do as much as you possibly can on your own, because people can and will not do things they commit to doing. Life things happen, so I understand, but when it ends up costing you months of time, it unfortunately really hurts the entire project. Fortunately, due to my own efforts, I stumbled upon a resource that we've been using for the project that's capable of making all the character models we'll be needing for the game. We've gotten confirmation from the creator of the resource that it's fine to use for our project, and so I'm very stoked to say that Jake and I have taken over the art direction and creation of the game's cards.  We've already made many characters, and they look fantastic.  We still have quite a bit of work to do, but we already have a rough card template to work with, and we will have a prototype to play around with soon enough.  The game is going to be great, and I haven't lost any motivation to finish it.  The only dilemma has been time since I first started working on it.  I know what needs to be done, but just can't do it without more time being put in.  I'm planning on having an extension to this website, which will have more information on the game and it's art and pieces when we have a prototype finished.  In the meantime, check in periodically to see how we're coming along.

Check out Randy's most recent cube draft video.  Hopefully we'll be seeing more from him over the next month or so.  Jake and I have also talked about maybe doing a Mirage block draft since Lion's Eye Diamonds are worth a small fortune online.  Hopefully they've fixed the glitches since last time.  The Mirage draft we did before had Phasing bugged, and we lost in the finals as a direct result of that glitch.

Email me at mortarpod@seemsgoodmagic.com if you have any questions, concerns, criticisms.  Thanks guys!
